Unit 9: Energy
Lesson 1: What Are Some Forms of Energy
Vocabulary
Energy- the ability to cause change in matter. Kinetic Energy - energy of motion. Potential Energy - is the energy something has because of its position or condition. Mechanical Energy - the total potential energy and kinetic energy of an object. Chemical Energy - energy that can be released by a chemical change. Electrical Energy - energy that comes from electric current.
Day 1:
Goal: Learn new vocabulary words
Day 2: Goal: Read and Discuss energy uses and their sources.
Day 3: Goal: We can differentiate between potential and kinetic energy.
Day 4: Goal: We can show understanding of the different types of energy.

Lesson 3: What is Heat?
Vocabulary:
Heat: energy that moves between objects of different temperatures Conduction: the transfer, or movement, of heat between two objects that are touching. Convection: the transfer of heat within a liquid or gas. Radiation: the transfer of heat without matter to carry it.
Day 1:
Goal: Learn new vocabulary words
Day 2: Goal: Read and Discuss different types of heat transfer.
Day 3: Goal: We can generalize how heat gets from the sun to the Earth.
Day 4: Goal: We can show understanding of the different types of energy transfer.

Lesson 5: What Are Conductors and Insulators?
Vocabulary
Insulator - Materials that do not conduct heat well. Conductor- Materials that allows heat to move through it easily.
Day 1:
Goal: Learn new vocabulary words
Day 2: Goal: Read and Discuss different flows of heat.
