What Is an Engineering Design Process?
Vocabulary:
Engineering: the use of scientific and mathematical principles to develop something practical. Design: means to conceive something and prepare the plans and drawings for it to be built. Prototype: an original or test model on which a real product is based.
Day 1:
Goal: Today we will introduce ourselves to the new vocabulary words for this lesson
Journal: Use the note card method to record the new vocabulary words in your journals. Make sure you include a picture (in color) and the word's definition.
Watch the video below if you have time.

Day 2:
Goal: Today we will discover how to use the design process to create a solution to a problem.
Day 3:
Goal: Today we will review the main concepts of this lesson.
Together Review: P. 73-75
Quiz Time: Unit 2 Lesson 1 on ThinkCentral or AG 14
Goal: Today we will discover how to use the design process to create a solution to a problem.
- Read and Discuss P.64-71
- Journal: Which step in the process do you think would be the most difficult?

Lesson 2: How Can you Design a Solution to a Problem
Day 1-2
Goal: Practice designing using the virtual lab to help prepare us for our SLED project at the end of the unit.
Lesson 3: What is Technology?
Vocabulary:
Tool: anything that helps people shape, build, or produce things to meet their need. Technology: any designed system, product, or process that people use to solve problems.
Day 1:
Goal: We will discover the new vocabulary in this lesson
Journal: Choose a way for you to record the new vocabulary in your journals. You must include a picture example, the word, and the definition.
Preview the digital lesson Think Central
Day 2-3:
Goal: We will identify a few examples of tools, and identify the needs that technology meets.
Read and Discuss P. 80-87
Journal: Create a Chart Similar to the one on P.89. With a partner choose another device or piece of technology and create a pros and cons list for that item.
Day 4:
Goal: We will review the main topics of this lesson
Review: Sum it Up P. 90
Independent Work: P.91-92
